New Delhi, March 30: Pakistani fast bowler Naseem Shah has found himself in hot water. He has been fined 2 crore Pakistani Rupees (approximately $7,100) for making a derogatory tweet about Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during the opening of the Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 2026). Additionally, he has been instructed to remove his social media influencer.
According to reports, “Naseem expressed ignorance regarding a tweet made during the PSL opening ceremony, which compared Maryam Nawaz to ‘the Queen of Lords’.”
Sources indicate that Maryam Nawaz accepted Naseem’s apology and was willing to forgive the young player for his offense. However, the disciplinary committee was not inclined to grant him leniency.
Naseem’s claim that his Twitter account had been hacked was not accepted by the committee.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated, “The disciplinary proceedings relate to violations of various terms of Naseem Shah’s central contract and PCB’s social media guidelines.”
On March 27, 2026, the PCB issued a show-cause notice detailing the violations and sought a response from Naseem.
Following the receipt and review of Naseem’s response, a personal hearing was held by a three-member disciplinary committee on March 30, 2025.
After evaluating the hearing and Naseem’s responses, the committee reached the following decision:
Taking into account Naseem’s unconditional apology, it was determined that he violated various terms of his central contract, resulting in a fine of 2 crore Pakistani Rupees.
It was also noted that Naseem Shah had already removed his social media advisor, and the PCB will blacklist this advisor to prevent them from working with any players under PCB jurisdiction. The PCB remains committed to upholding professional standards, contractual obligations, and the integrity of the sport.
