Adur, March 30: The Congress party has asserted that the electoral atmosphere in Kerala is strongly in favor of the United Democratic Front (UDF), expressing confidence in a decisive victory in the upcoming assembly elections.
Congress MP K. Suresh stated, “The mood in Kerala is favorable for the UDF. We expect to win nearly 100 out of 140 seats.”
He also discussed the visit of senior party leader Rahul Gandhi to the state. Suresh noted, “Today, Rahul Gandhi campaigned in the Adur assembly constituency for the UDF candidate. He is scheduled to promote in four other assembly constituencies later today.”
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi launched an aggressive campaign for the assembly elections in Kerala, accusing the ruling leftist parties and the BJP of a ‘secret alliance.’ He made several welfare promises to voters ahead of the elections on April 9.
Addressing a public meeting in Adur under the sweltering heat, he thanked supporters for their large turnout and framed the electoral battle as a direct competition between the UDF and an indirect left-BJP coalition.
He stated, “On one side is the UDF. On the other is the alliance of the left and the BJP. The BJP does not see the left as a real challenge at the national level.”
As the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of remaining silent on controversial issues in Kerala, including Sabarimala, to avoid politically harming the CPI(M).
He claimed that the leftist government in Kerala no longer reflects true leftist ideology and has instead adopted ‘corporate-friendly’ policies similar to those of the BJP. Highlighting the plight of rubber farmers, he criticized both the central and state governments for neglecting this sector and failing to protect workers and small producers.
Rahul Gandhi also made several significant promises, positioning the UDF as a pro-people alternative.
