Punjab BJP Chief Accuses AAP and Congress of Distracting Public Attention

Chandigarh, March 19: Sunil Jakhar, the President of Punjab BJP, stated on Thursday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress are collaborating to divert public attention from the real issues facing the state.

While addressing reporters, Jakhar criticized both parties for spreading misinformation against the central government and BJP. He warned that such attempts to incite hatred against the center in a border state like Punjab could be extremely dangerous for the future of the region.

Citing facts and figures, Jakhar pointed out that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has finally acknowledged that the state received ₹13,000 crores for disaster relief, of which only ₹477 crores have been utilized. He expressed surprise at why it took the Chief Minister so long to review the records of the state treasury.

Jakhar also highlighted that Congress leaders, who are accused of misusing the Chief Minister’s fund, are acting as defenders of the AAP government in Parliament. He criticized Congress for failing to fulfill its role as the opposition, claiming its leaders have either “sold their voice” to Mann or lost their ability to speak due to past corruption.

He asserted that both parties are now working together to spread hatred against the central government and BJP. Jakhar presented data to refute the narrative being pushed against the BJP-led central government, which he labeled as false.

He noted that during the UPA government, the agricultural budget was ₹21,933 crores, while the BJP government has increased it to ₹1.30 lakh crores. Under the PM-Kisan scheme, ₹4.27 lakh crores have been directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts.

The fertilizer subsidy, which was ₹18,460 crores during the UPA era, has risen to ₹1.77 lakh crores under the BJP government this year. Targeting the Chief Minister, Jakhar questioned why the state government has not implemented its own agricultural policy.

He remarked that the draft policy for farmers has been ready since October 2023, asking what the Chief Minister is waiting for. Jakhar inquired about the steps being taken to address any flaws in the policy.
