Punjab Activists Murder Highlights Law and Order Failures, Says BJP President Nitin Naveen

Mansa, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : The murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jota in Mansa, Punjab, has raised serious concerns about the law and order situation under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Nitin Naveen, the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), described the incident as a significant failure of governance.

Jota was shot dead on Tuesday morning, prompting fears for the safety of those campaigning against drug abuse and opposing the alleged illegal drug trade in the region. Naveen took to social media platform X to express his shock, stating, “The murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jota in Mansa is alarming. It highlights the troubling law and order situation during AAP’s governance in Punjab.”

He further criticized the AAP, which came to power promising a drug-free Punjab, saying, “Today, those who speak out against drugs are not even safe. This is a serious failure of the administration. If those fighting against the drug mafia are not safe, then who is safe in Punjab?”

Naveen emphasized that the people of Punjab deserve answers and accountability regarding this incident. Preliminary reports suggest that a medical store operator allegedly shot Jota following a dispute related to anti-drug activities. Jota was part of an anti-drug task force and actively campaigned against drug trafficking and the sale of narcotics, rallying local residents to unite against drug abuse.

Earlier in the day, opposition parties in Punjab also criticized the AAP government for the deteriorating law and order situation. Former Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring stated, “The daylight murder of Parvinder Singh Jota is a direct result of the Bhagwant Mann government’s failure to maintain law and order and the failure of the ‘war on drugs’ campaign.”

Bikram Singh Majithia, general secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal, condemned the murder and questioned the safety of those speaking out against drugs, calling for the state government’s resignation. He posted on X, “Parvinder Singh Jota, who had long fought against drugs in Mansa, has been killed. He was allegedly broadcasting live about the sale of ‘chitta’ at a medical store. Bhagwant Mann, will anyone who raises their voice now be killed? The people of Punjab should unite and demand answers and the government’s resignation.”
