Pune, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Pune’s Additional Police Commissioner, Sarang Awad, announced that authorities have registered 31 cases against Ganesh mandals and DJ operators for violating noise pollution regulations during the Dahi Handi celebrations. He emphasized that strict measures will remain in place as preparations for the Ganesh Festival continue.
During a press briefing, Awad explained that readings were taken to monitor noise levels. Any mandal that exceeded the permissible limits faced action. The police have targeted both officials and DJ operators, leading to the current count of 31 cases filed. He assured that enforcement will persist throughout the festival.
According to Maharashtra’s regulations, noise levels are capped between 40 decibels and 75 decibels, with different limits for day and night. The city is divided into four zones: silence zones, residential zones, commercial zones, and industrial zones, with industrial zones allowing the highest noise levels. Additionally, measures will be taken against the use of laser lights.
Awad mentioned that meetings have been held with workers, officials, and DJ owners to ensure they understand these regulations as they prepare for the upcoming festivities.
In Mumbai, preparations for the Ganesh Festival are also in full swing. The Lalbaugcha Raja mandal is among the most renowned, attracting large crowds of devotees. Another notable mandal is Ganesh Gully, known for its stunning themes and elaborate decorations.
