Protest Erupts in Patna Over Bihar Police Driver Recruitment Vacancies

Patna, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : Candidates vying for positions in the Bihar police driver recruitment process intensified their protests in Patna on Friday. They are urging the government to fill more than 1,200 vacant positions reserved for women with eligible male candidates from the relevant categories.

Initially, the protesters planned to march towards the Chief Minister‘s residence. However, police intervened and halted their progress before the march could commence. Security forces were deployed in large numbers around Gandhi Maidan and nearby areas, with barricades set up at Gate Number 10.

The demonstrators claimed they had received permission to hold a peaceful sit-in, organize a ceremonial procession, and march. Yet, they alleged that the administration prevented them from proceeding as planned.

The protest was scheduled to start at 11 AM with a sit-in at Gandhi Maidan, followed by a procession and a march from Gate Number 10 to the Dak Bungalow crossing. Candidates expressed that over 1,200 positions reserved for women remain unfilled in the driver recruitment process. They urged officials to consider appointing eligible male candidates from the corresponding categories to fill these vacancies.

This approach, they argued, would ensure that positions do not remain unoccupied, providing job opportunities for other qualified applicants.

One protester, Radhe Shyam Kumar, mentioned that they had been staging a sit-in at Gardanibagh for several days. He highlighted the challenges they face in continuing their movement, noting that family members questioned why they were spending time protesting instead of studying.

Kumar emphasized the need for candidates to raise their voices to secure their rights. He reiterated their demand that any remaining vacant positions after allocating seats to female candidates be made available to male applicants. He also referenced the sub-inspector recruitment process, arguing that similar provisions should be considered for the driver recruitment initiative.

Despite police barricades and security personnel, candidates continued to gather near Gate Number 10 at Gandhi Maidan. The protesters insisted that their intentions were peaceful and aimed at voicing their demands.
