Patna, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : In a bold move, Santosh Kumar Suman, the national president of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Bihar’s Minister for Minor Water Resources, has proposed renaming Bakhtiyarpur to ‘Nitishpur.’ The proposal was presented to Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary during a meeting in Patna on Wednesday.
Suman emphasized that Bakhtiyarpur is the birthplace of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and deserves to be honored with a name that reflects this heritage. He stated that the location is more than just a geographical marker; it is the birthplace of a leader who has significantly influenced Bihar’s politics, development, and governance over the years.
He further articulated that many memories related to Kumar’s life, struggles, and public service are tied to Bakhtiyarpur. Renaming the town is not merely a matter of changing a name; it is about acknowledging the area’s history, pride, and the sentiments of its residents.
Citing Kumar’s contributions to Bihar’s development, good governance, and social reform, Suman argued that the identity of the place should reflect its most notable figure. “The land that has given Bihar a leader like Nitish Kumar should also carry a name that is connected to his glory,” he asserted.
Suman urged Chief Minister Chaudhary to consider this proposal seriously, stating, “Renaming Bakhtiyarpur to ‘Nitishpur’ would not just be a name change but an effort to honor the pride and history of this soil.”
Following Suman’s proposal, discussions around the potential name change are expected to intensify within political and social spheres. He believes this initiative could provide a distinct identity to the birthplace of a prominent leader, while also introducing future generations to Kumar’s public life and contributions.
