
Kyiv, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s recent visit to Kyiv marked a significant milestone in Ukraine-Germany relations, culminating in the signing of 15 agreements worth €8.5 billion. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude for the collaboration, emphasizing that Germany is not only providing assistance but also sharing knowledge and experience.
Following the Ukraine-Germany Business Forum, Zelensky took to social media platform X to highlight the importance of the visit. He stated, “We are deeply thankful for the heartfelt support from the German delegation led by Chancellor Merz. This visit was crucial, positive, and strong in terms of agreements made.” He noted that the collaboration would create job opportunities in both nations as they work together across various sectors.
The agreements include a joint declaration between Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior to collaborate on countering drone systems. Additionally, a partnership was established for the production of Ukrainian drones in Germany between Ukraine’s National Guard and Quantum Systems GmbH. Another memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Ukraine’s State Emergency Service and Alpha Robotics Germany regarding the use of drone systems for firefighting and rescue operations.
Further agreements involve the procurement and supply of IRIS-T missiles between Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and Diehl Defense, including the purchase of high-precision artillery ammunition and tactical radar systems. There are also plans for testing and acquiring interceptor drones in collaboration with Quantum Systems.
In the energy sector, agreements were reached between Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy and Siemens Energy, as well as between NPC Ukrenergo and two German power grid operators, 50Hertz and Amprion. Additional memoranda were signed between Naftogaz and Siemens Energy, along with cooperation agreements involving Quantum Systems, Fire Point, ARX Robotics, and Roboniacs.
This historic visit and the resulting agreements signal a strengthened partnership between Germany and Ukraine, focusing on defense and energy cooperation.
