Priyanka Chaturvedi Accuses BJP of Distracting from Real Issues with Vande Mataram Debate

New Delhi, August 22: Former Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has accused the BJP of diverting attention from serious economic and social issues facing the country. Her remarks came in response to the BJP’s recent proposal regarding Vande Mataram, the formation of a Gen Z outreach team, and comments made by the BJP concerning Rahul Gandhi‘s event in Pune.

Chaturvedi criticized the BJP for focusing on the protection of Vande Mataram and condemning Congress’s decision to sing its two verses. She stated that the ruling party should have seriously considered the current circumstances in the country. If the BJP were to pass a proposal, it should address the economy, unemployment, women’s safety, the status of women in politics, and the challenges faced by the youth. Today, young people are encountering numerous difficulties in competitive exams, with issues like exam leaks causing anxiety about their futures.

She emphasized that the nation is grappling with unemployment, inflation, and various challenges affecting daily life. Instead of discussing these pressing issues, the government is creating controversies around the national anthem and song. Rather than engaging in the Vande Mataram versus Jan Gan Man debate, the government should present solid proposals and policies that advance the country with an “India First” mindset.

Regarding the BJP’s formation of a team to reach out to Gen Z, Chaturvedi remarked that while it is commendable to engage with the youth, it is essential to understand their real issues. She accused the BJP of attempting to connect with the youth while simultaneously claiming that the crowd at Rahul Gandhi’s Pune event was paid to attend. This, she argued, reflects the BJP’s previous tactics of making similar accusations against participants in democratic protests and farmers’ movements.

Chaturvedi asserted that if the BJP genuinely wants to connect with Gen Z, it must comprehend their language and priorities. The youth’s primary concerns are employment, quality education, and transparent examination processes. The government should provide a roadmap to make the examination system leak-proof. Young people expect the government to strengthen the economy, increase job opportunities, and ensure transparency in competitive exams. Merely attempting to reach Gen Z through social media or political campaigns is insufficient. To engage with the new generation, political parties must address their issues.

On the topic raised by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge regarding rising sugar prices and the ethanol policy, Chaturvedi criticized the government. She stated that there should be serious discussions about sugar prices and production in the country, but political discourse is being entangled in other issues. She claimed that sugar production has been low this year, with a portion diverted to ethanol. She also referenced the government’s E-20 policy, urging the government to provide clear answers to the public regarding its implications.

Chaturvedi questioned why the general public is paying more for sugar and demanded that the government explain the reasons behind this and the impact of the ethanol policy on sugar availability and prices.
