Sambit Patra Criticizes Congress Over Vande Mataram Controversy

New Delhi, August 22: Following the announcement of a new team by BJP National President Nitin Naveen, the first official meeting took place at the BJP headquarters on Saturday. After the meeting, party spokesperson Sambit Patra held a press conference, stating that discussions are still ongoing.

Patra revealed that the first proposal passed during the meeting was to honor the pride and respect for Vande Mataram. He noted that significant decisions regarding Vande Mataram have been made in recent months.

“This year marks the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. Across India, there is a visible respect, sentiment, and emotional connection to Vande Mataram,” Patra said.

He emphasized, “I referred to Vande Mataram as a mantra because its essence lies in patriotism. For the first time in India’s history, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA leadership, all six verses of Vande Mataram were sung in the Red Fort complex.”

Patra mentioned that on August 15, 2026, all six verses of Vande Mataram were sung together for the first time in India’s history.

The BJP spokesperson made serious allegations against Congress. He stated, “With the sunrise, we listened to, appreciated, and paid homage to the complete Vande Mataram. However, as the sun set on August 15, a video surfaced on social media from the Congress office, showing Sonia Gandhi instructing to stop after two verses of Vande Mataram.”

He added, “We witnessed how former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, in the presence of Rahul Gandhi, was heard saying ‘stop-stop’ when Vande Mataram began, as if some inappropriate words had been spoken.”

Patra pointed out that on August 19, a proposal was passed during the CWC meeting, echoing a resolution from 1937 that rejected the singing of all six verses of Vande Mataram, opting instead to sing only two.

He stated, “Draped in the cloak of nationalism, how long will Congress hide? The facade of nationalism has completely fallen away, revealing the appeasement politics that the entire nation can see. However, the BJP will not allow this to happen.”

Patra asserted that there will be no compromise regarding Vande Mataram. He accused Rahul Gandhi of stating in a closed-door meeting that Congress is a party for Muslims. “But that does not mean you can divide the country in this manner. Mahatma Gandhi advocated for singing Vande Mataram. It was never a tool to divide Hindus and Muslims.”
