Prime Minister Modi Urges Students to Embrace Technology, Not Fear It

New Delhi, February 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed students in the second episode of the ninth edition of the ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ program, focusing on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He encouraged students to avoid becoming slaves to technology and instead expand their own capabilities.

A student from Coimbatore, Aadi Vikram, posed a question to the Prime Minister, asking whether they should fear AI. He noted, “In today’s world, the influence of AI is growing. We see that many companies employ AI instead of humans. Should we be afraid of AI, and what should we keep in mind when planning our future careers?”

In response, Modi explained that discussions about new technology have always been prevalent in every era. He recalled past concerns about how computers would change the world. “We should not fear technology. Our goal should be to ensure we are not its slaves and to decide that we will remain in control. Technology cannot own us,” he stated.

Expressing concern, Modi highlighted that many children have become overly dependent on their mobile devices. He remarked, “If you cannot eat without your phone or cannot live without a TV, it clearly indicates that you have become its slave.”

Advising students, the Prime Minister said, “Once you decide in your mind that you are not a slave, you can make the most of every technology available.”

Using examples, Modi illustrated, “If you ask AI where to find a book or which is a good book on a topic, it may guide you, which is helpful. However, if you say, ‘I won’t read; let AI tell me what’s in the book,’ that’s a significant problem.”

He emphasized the importance of adapting to the changing nature of jobs. “We need to understand technology and expand ourselves. Incorporate the power of technology into your work. If you do this, no matter how advanced the technology becomes, we will benefit from it, and there is no need to fear it.”
