Victoria, June 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a three-day visit to Seychelles, was honored with a Guard of Honor at the State House. He was warmly welcomed by Seychelles President Patrick Herminie.
The visit, which began on June 27, will continue until June 29. Its primary goal is to strengthen the long-standing bilateral relations between India and Seychelles.
At the State House, President Herminie formally welcomed Prime Minister Modi, and both leaders participated in an official ceremony.
On Monday, Prime Minister Modi will be the chief guest at Seychelles’ Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations, marking 50 years of independence from Britain, which was achieved in 1976.
PM Modi arrived in Seychelles’ capital, Victoria, on Saturday afternoon, where President Herminie and several senior ministers and officials greeted him at the airport. The welcome ceremony featured a traditional folk dance from the Kutch region of Gujarat. PM Modi praised the Indian diaspora, calling it an example of “Global Connect.”
On the same day, Prime Minister Modi and President Herminie traveled together to the Seychelles National Botanical Garden.
During this visit, Prime Minister Modi gifted Seychelles a Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) named PS LESPEEDWAR, along with six ambulances, ten utility vehicles, and five laser radial boats. These gifts will enhance Seychelles’ maritime surveillance and patrolling capabilities in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The special maritime vessel was constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited. The transfer ceremony took place at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base in Victoria, attended by President Herminie.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated on the social media platform X that this Indian-made Fast Patrol Vessel will play a crucial role in strengthening Seychelles’ maritime security and EEZ monitoring capabilities.
