Preparations Complete for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, Pilgrims Advised to Brace for Weather Challenges

Lhasa, June 21: Vikram Doraiswami, India’s Ambassador to China, released a video message on Sunday for pilgrims embarking on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. He shared insights on the preparations being made, his experiences during the circumambulation, and essential advice for travelers.

The Ambassador, along with his embassy team, visited the circumambulation route around Mount Kailash and all official entry points for the journey.

He noted that this site holds immense significance for locals, leading to expectations of large crowds. This year is particularly special as it marks a significant year according to both the Chinese and traditional Tibetan calendars, occurring every 12 years.

The embassy team not only inspected the entry points but also evaluated the hotels where pilgrims will stay each night. They checked the kitchens, available rooms for travelers, and the primary medical facilities present.

The Ambassador emphasized that preparations have been made in collaboration with the Chinese government, but travelers should be aware of the challenges associated with this journey.

He stated, “This is a high-altitude area. During the journey, you will spend most of your time above 3,500 meters. The circumambulation path reaches heights of approximately 5,605 meters, nearing 6,000 meters.”

Discussing the weather challenges, he mentioned, “As you can see, I am struggling to catch my breath while speaking to you. The weather around the sacred Mount Kailash can change rapidly, with snow, sunshine, and rain occurring simultaneously.”

The Ambassador advised pilgrims on clothing preparations, health precautions, and oxygen level awareness.

This journey is considered one of the most sacred religious pilgrimages for devotees. This year, the pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar is resuming, located in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.

A total of 500 pilgrims will travel via the Nathu La route, divided into ten groups of 50 each. Each group will have a liaison officer and a medical assistant to ensure better coordination and assistance when needed.
