Patna, August 30: Political tensions have escalated in Bihar following Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about the Dalit community and his controversial ‘two cups’ statement. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Gandhi of spreading falsehoods and dividing society, while Congress has rallied in support of his comments.
BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized Gandhi, stating, “Rahul Gandhi has no issues to address. Every topic he raises leads to his embarrassment. He brought up the Vande Mataram issue and faced backlash.”
Bihar government minister Ashok Kumar Chaudhary also questioned Gandhi’s statement, asking, “Who is responsible for this? Who has been in power for so many years? Shouldn’t he ask himself these questions?”
In Delhi, BJP spokesperson Yasir Jilani accused Gandhi of inciting hatred. He remarked, “Rahul Gandhi keeps lying. After the protests at Jantar Mantar, it seems he believes he has found a magical formula, but that is a misconception. There is no discrimination happening at roadside stalls or tea shops.”
He further stated, “Rahul Gandhi, why are you spreading hatred? This will not increase your votes; it will only decrease them. We all live together in India and support each other in times of joy and sorrow.”
In Mumbai, BJP national spokesperson Tuhin A. Sinha commented, “Rahul Gandhi’s sole purpose in life is to mislead people with lies, as he lacks the ability to speak the truth or comprehend it. Therefore, when he misled students at the ‘Students’ Echo’ rally, the ‘Echo of Lies’ was launched to scrutinize every claim he makes and present the correct facts to students.”
Meanwhile, Congress leader Udit Raj defended Gandhi’s remarks regarding the Dalit community. He stated, “The truth of Hinduism will also emerge. If a person from the Chamar, Valmiki, Khatik, or Dhanuk community opens a tea shop, will they be able to run those shops? Those who claim there is no caste discrimination will soon face the truth.”
It is noteworthy that during a press conference on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi mentioned that there are two types of cups at tea stalls. One cup is given to Dalits, which is used and discarded, while the other cup belongs to the upper caste, which is reused. His statement has sparked significant political controversy.
