Political Tensions Rise Over PM Modis Response to Student Protests

Lucknow, August 1: Political tensions have escalated following Prime Minister Modi’s video message addressing the use of inappropriate language by students during a protest at Jantar Mantar. Ajay Rai, the head of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, and Udayveer Singh, a leader from the Samajwadi Party, have expressed sharp criticism.

In a conversation, Ajay Rai stated that the Prime Minister’s repeated video messages are unnecessary. He pointed out that while Modi is attempting to clarify his stance, he is simultaneously filing FIRs against students. “Children are being identified and harassed,” Rai said. He also condemned BJP MP Kangana Ranaut for making disrespectful comments about students, particularly female students, and called for immediate action against her, suggesting she should be expelled from the party.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Udayveer Singh remarked that while the Prime Minister is forgiving students who used inappropriate language, he is also pressing charges against them. “Does the Prime Minister not remember those who proudly say they are ‘followed by the Prime Minister of India’?” he questioned.

Singh emphasized that the government should not downplay the students’ struggles for recognition. He noted that the students have raised critical issues affecting a large segment of the country’s future and have brought the government’s mistakes to light. “The government should openly acknowledge its errors,” he added.

On Friday, Prime Minister Modi shared a video message on his official Instagram account, responding to the incident at Jantar Mantar. He stated that the entire nation and the world witnessed what transpired. Modi described the actions of some “mischievous children” as highly inappropriate and unbecoming of a civilized society.

He expressed his desire to forgive them, urging society to accept this sentiment. “Sometimes, our tongue gets caught between our teeth, and we may bleed, but we do not break our teeth, because both the teeth and the tongue belong to us, and so do the children,” he said.
