Varanasi, August 1: In Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, an FIR has been filed against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad, and MP Pappu Yadav for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
The complaint was lodged by Jagadguru Balak Devacharya, the head of Patalpuri Math, at the Kotwali police station. He requested that an FIR be registered against MP Pappu Yadav for his involvement in the political drama that unfolded in the Parliament premises.
The complaint alleges that during the political protest on July 31, 2026, in the Parliament complex, the Hindu saint tradition, the Ram Temple, and the donations made by devotees were mocked. It claims that the actions of Congress and Samajwadi Party MPs insulted the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus in the country.
The complaint specifically names Rahul Gandhi, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, and Awadhesh Prasad, the MP from Faizabad. They are accused of wearing saffron attire and using the image of Hindu saints for political purposes during the protest. The complaint further states that this dramatic display mocked Hindu faith, saint traditions, and religious symbols, raising concerns about potential communal tensions. The police have now registered a case against all three MPs.
On Friday, Pappu Yadav, along with several opposition MPs, staged a unique protest in Parliament regarding the alleged irregularities in donations to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. During this protest, questions were raised about the absence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Pappu Yadav arrived in Parliament dressed as a sadhu and performed a street play to highlight the alleged donation irregularities in Ayodhya. During the protest, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi, and several other opposition leaders were seen symbolically donating in donation boxes.
Pappu Yadav, in his sadhu attire, raised slogans and, while speaking to journalists, stated, “Ram Ram Japiyo Re, Sab Maal Hadapiyo Re.”
