Hyderabad, March 25: Political tensions are escalating in Telangana regarding the Anti-Hate Speech Bill. BJP spokesperson T.R. Srinivas has criticized the Congress party, labeling the bill as a move driven by “vote bank politics.”
While speaking in Hyderabad, Srinivas stated, “As vote bank politics intensifies, appeasement also rises. This mirrors what happened in Karnataka, where a similar hate speech bill was introduced, and now we see the same pattern in Telangana.”
He accused Congress of pursuing an “80-20 politics” strategy, suggesting that the party is focused on advancing appeasement tactics. Srinivas pointed out that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections are approaching, indicating that this legislation is strategically timed.
“The 20 percent vote bank in Telangana is crucial for Congress. This is why they are introducing the hate speech bill, to cater to that demographic,” he added.
The BJP spokesperson also compared this bill to the “Communal Violence Bill” introduced during the UPA government, asserting, “What is happening now is an attempt to reintroduce that bill as version 2.0 through the backdoor.”
Srinivas made serious allegations, claiming that the bill aims to persecute Hindus, emphasizing that Congress is willing to go to any lengths for its vote bank.
The political landscape in Telangana has become heated over this issue, and further intense debates are expected in the coming days.
It is noteworthy that the Telangana Cabinet has approved the “Telangana Hate Speech and Hate Crime Prevention Bill, 2026,” which aims to enforce strict laws against promoting communal hatred, riots, or violence through social media, speeches, and actions.
