AIIA Launches Ayurvarta Digital Dialogue Series Ahead of Ayurveda Day

New Delhi, September 1: The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi has launched a special digital dialogue series called ‘Ayurvarta’. This initiative aims to disseminate authentic Ayurvedic knowledge, scientific perspectives, and its relevance in contemporary health systems to a wide audience both domestically and internationally. AIIA operates as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of AYUSH.

This initiative comes ahead of the upcoming Ayurveda Day, which will be celebrated on September 23. Through ‘Ayurvarta’, discussions will be held with experts on topics related to Ayurveda, contemporary health challenges, scientific research, education, medical practices, and the growing global relevance of Ayurveda.

The first episode of ‘Ayurvarta’ featured a special dialogue between AIIA Director Professor (Vaidya) P.K. Prajapati and Dean, Ph.D., Professor Dr. Mahesh Vyas. The central theme of this episode was “Why is Ayurveda Day celebrated on September 23?”

During the discussion, they elaborated on the history of Ayurveda Day, its previous observance on Dhanvantari Jayanti, and the Indian government‘s decision to designate a specific date for Ayurveda Day.

Professor (Vaidya) P.K. Prajapati emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, continuous efforts are being made to strengthen Ayurveda as a significant knowledge and health system, which is increasingly relevant in the global health landscape.

He noted that designating a specific date for Ayurveda Day would provide greater continuity to its annual observance and help develop a robust identity for Ayurveda at both national and international levels.

Professor Prajapati stated that ‘Ayurvarta’ serves as a digital extension of this broader vision, providing easy and effective access to authentic Ayurvedic knowledge and expert insights.

Professor (Dr.) Mahesh Vyas highlighted the significance of September 23, explaining that this date coincides with the autumn equinox when day and night are approximately equal in length.

He mentioned that balance and harmony are fundamental concepts in Ayurveda’s understanding of health and wellness. Thus, the date of September 23 can also be associated with Ayurveda’s principles of balance, harmony, and equilibrium.

‘Ayurvarta’ is designed as a digital platform for ongoing and meaningful dialogue on various dimensions of Ayurveda. The series will feature discussions with leading Ayurvedic experts, practitioners, educators, scientists, researchers, and policy specialists from India and abroad.

Future episodes of ‘Ayurvarta’ will cover various aspects of Ayurveda, including its scientific basis and modern research, Ayurvedic education and the role of the new generation, Ayurveda and public health, innovations and technology in Ayurveda, integration of Ayurveda with modern medical science, medicinal plants and natural resources, healthy lifestyles and preventive health, Ayurveda and global health, and the potential for international expansion of Ayurveda, along with research and evidence-based medicine.

Episodes of ‘Ayurvarta’ will be available on AIIA’s official digital and social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, X, and Instagram. This initiative aims to provide authentic and scientific information related to Ayurveda to students, youth, practitioners, researchers, educators, and the general public.
