Political Debate Ignites Over Priyanka Gandhis Cow Urine Expert Remark on IIT Madras Director

New Delhi, July 28: A political storm has erupted following Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s recent comment in the Lok Sabha, where she referred to Professor V. Kamakoti, the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, as a “cow urine expert.” This remark has sparked intense discussions regarding both the political implications and Professor Kamakoti’s academic and scientific contributions.

Professor V. Kamakoti is recognized as one of the leading computer scientists and educators in India. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Madras. He joined the faculty of the institute in 2001 and took on the role of Director in January 2022.

His areas of expertise include computer architecture, information security, and VLSI design. Professor Kamakoti also leads the Microprocessor Development Program and the Information Security Education and Awareness Program at IIT Madras.

In addition to his academic roles, Professor Kamakoti is a member of the National Security Advisory Board. He has also served as the chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Task Force established by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

At IIT Madras, he has held significant positions, including Chairman of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and Associate Dean for Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research.

His contributions to research are noteworthy, with over 150 research papers published in international journals and conferences. He has guided numerous Ph.D. and Master of Science (Research) students and successfully led around 50 research and development projects in collaboration with industry and government research institutions.

Professor Kamakoti is also a member of the technology committees of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

He has received several prestigious awards, including the DRDO Academic Excellence Award, the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association Techno Visionary Award, the Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship, the ACCS Lifetime Achievement Award, the IBM Faculty Award, and the VASVIK Industrial Research Award.

Following Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks in the Lok Sabha, discussions about Professor V. Kamakoti’s academic achievements and scientific contributions have intensified in both political and public spheres.
