Political Change in West Bengal Essential for National Security: Manik Saha

Agartala, May 5: The recent fair and free elections in West Bengal have secured a victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the urgent need for political change amid rising concerns over infiltration and national security.

Saha led a victory rally in Agartala alongside state BJP president Rajiv Bhattacharya and other senior leaders. In a subsequent media address, he stated that the people of West Bengal have long sought liberation from decades of alleged misgovernance, first under the Left Front and later under the Trinamool Congress.

He pointed out that cross-border infiltration has become a serious national security issue for Bengal. Saha also accused the Trinamool Congress of forcibly seizing power in the state and oppressing the public for the past 15 years.

He further claimed that citizens of West Bengal have been deprived of ‘real democracy’ during the 35 years of Leftist rule and the subsequent 15 years under the Trinamool Congress government. Saha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘liberating’ the people of the state. Highlighting security concerns, he stressed that a change of power in West Bengal is crucial for India’s safety and stability.

He asserted that the BJP’s victory would restore peace, halt Bengal from becoming a corridor for infiltration, and accelerate development under a double-engine governance model.

In response to Trinamool’s claims that the BJP would interfere with people’s dietary habits, Saha cited Tripura as an example. He noted that despite the BJP being in power for the past eight years, Tripura remains one of the leading states in fish consumption in the country. He affirmed that the BJP government in Tripura has never interfered with the food choices of its citizens.
