Patna, June 25: Civil Surgeon Shivendra Kumar Sinha from Bhojpur has provided insights into the case of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, who was injured in a police encounter. Upon arrival at the Shahpur Primary Health Center (PHC), Tiwari’s condition was critical. After initial treatment, he was promptly referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
Dr. Sinha stated that he is unaware of what transpired after Tiwari was taken to the hospital in Patna. Tiwari, a resident of Belauti village in Bhojpur district, succumbed to injuries sustained during a police operation on June 17.
In an interview, Dr. Sinha explained, “The patient was referred to our hospital from the Shahpur Community Health Center (CHC), where he initially received care. Due to the severity of his condition, he was sent to us.” He noted that the Shahpur PHC had already been informed about the referral.
“The patient arrived at our hospital around 10 AM. As soon as we received the information, our entire medical team was on standby, knowing a serious case was being referred to us. We were fully prepared, with orthopedic specialists, surgeons, and anesthetists on the team,” he added.
The medical team attempted to stabilize Tiwari in the operating theater. However, his condition deteriorated as doctors discovered ruptured arteries. “We could not take any risks and referred him after initial treatment,” Dr. Sinha remarked.
He confirmed that they had received information that Tiwari reached PMCH safely, but he lacks details on what happened afterward. Typically, critically ill patients from Bhojpur are referred to PMCH in Patna.
Regarding the autopsy, Dr. Sinha mentioned, “The autopsy was not conducted at our hospital, and since he died in Patna, it would have been performed there.”
According to police reports, Tiwari allegedly fired 10 to 12 rounds at the police team, prompting them to return fire in self-defense. However, his family and several locals claim that Tiwari had surrendered before being shot, raising suspicions of a staged encounter.
