Chandigarh, June 13: The Punjab police are actively combating arms and drug trafficking in the state. Recently, they arrested two suspects in Bathinda, seizing weapons from their possession.
Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared the news on social media, stating, “The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has apprehended two individuals in Bathinda. They were found with two .32 caliber country-made pistols and five cartridges.”
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects are linked to a criminal network operated by a jailed gangster from the Ferozepur area. Both individuals have a criminal history, including charges of attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act.
A case has been registered at the Civil Lines police station in Bathinda. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover previous and future connections within the network and identify any accomplices involved. The Punjab police remain committed to dismantling organized crime and ensuring peace and security across the state.
Earlier, on June 8, the DGP reported that the Amritsar Commissionerate police achieved a significant breakthrough by busting an illegal arms smuggling and hawala network, leading to the arrest of four suspects, including an Afghan national. They recovered eight sophisticated pistols and seven cartridges from the suspects, who were in contact with a smuggler based abroad. FIRs were filed at the Islamabad police station and the Gate Hakima police station in Amritsar.
On June 3, the DGP announced another success against drug and illegal arms trafficking in Punjab. The Amritsar police Commissionerate arrested two individuals linked to an interstate arms and drug smuggling module, recovering 2.225 kilograms of heroin, six advanced pistols, and twelve cartridges.
