Market Outlook: Key Factors Influencing Indian Stock Market Next Week

Mumbai, August 23: The upcoming week is set to be crucial for the Indian stock market. The direction of the market will be influenced by U.S. Federal Chairman Kevin Wash’s speech, updates on U.S.-Iran tensions, crude oil prices, foreign investor movements, and domestic economic data.

Chairman Wash is scheduled to speak at the annual U.S. central bank event in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on August 28. Investors will closely watch his remarks, especially amid global instability that has kept crude oil prices and bond yields high, raising concerns about inflation.

Investors will also be attentive to updates regarding U.S.-Iran relations. Recently, Tehran criticized Washington’s plans for new sanctions, increasing the risks surrounding ongoing peace talks between the two nations.

Foreign investor activity will be significant next week. Last week, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold approximately ₹1,600 crores in the Indian stock market. However, on a net basis, FIIs have been buyers this month, with purchases exceeding ₹2,500 crores.

Additionally, the upcoming week will see the release of data on industrial and manufacturing production, as well as foreign exchange reserves, providing a clearer picture of the economic landscape.

During the trading sessions from August 17 to 21, major indices experienced selling pressure. The Sensex fell by 468.42 points, or 0.60%, closing at 77,540.83, while the Nifty declined by 114 points, or 0.47%, to finish at 24,252.
