Amazon CEO Andy Jassy Announces $48 Billion Investment in India by 2030

New Delhi, June 25: Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, reaffirming the company’s commitment to India. During the meeting, Jassy announced an additional investment of $13 billion by 2030 to expand artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure in the country.

On the social media platform X, Jassy shared a photo from the meeting, stating, “My meeting with Prime Minister Narendra was very productive regarding Amazon’s future plans in India. We have been serving customers, sellers, developers, startups, and industries in India for over a decade, and this is just the beginning of our journey.”

He further elaborated on the upcoming plans, revealing that Amazon will invest $48 billion in India over the next five years, with more than $21 billion allocated specifically for AI and cloud infrastructure.

According to Jassy, “By 2030, we aim to create 3.8 million jobs, enable $80 billion in e-commerce exports, and provide AI benefits to 1.5 million small businesses and 4 million government school students. I am excited about the future. There is still much to do in India.”

As per information available on Amazon’s official site, this new investment will bring the company’s total planned investment in AI and cloud infrastructure in India to over $21 billion between 2026 and 2030. This will be one of the largest global investments in the AI and cloud sector in India.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) will expand its data center network in Mumbai and Hyderabad, enhancing access to AI chips, managed AI services, secure cloud technology, and developer tools for startups, large industries, and government institutions.

The company also stated that its total investment in India from 2010 to 2030 will exceed $88 billion. Additionally, Amazon will continue to invest in strengthening its e-commerce and quick commerce networks.

This year, Amazon plans to launch over 20 new fulfillment centers and more than 100 new last-mile delivery stations across the country. This will particularly benefit customers in tier-3 and tier-4 cities with faster and more reliable delivery services.

The company has also announced a special program named ‘Samman’ for the welfare of delivery employees.

Jassy praised Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, noting that Amazon’s business in India is rapidly growing, especially in e-commerce, AI, and cloud services. He emphasized that the company’s priorities align with India’s goals for a digital economy, the digitization of small businesses, job creation, and boosting exports.

According to Amazon, the company has already digitized 12 million small businesses in India, enabled over $20 billion in e-commerce exports, and supported 2.8 million jobs. Amazon has also trained over 1 million Indians in cloud skills.

Jassy concluded by stating that Amazon will invest a total of $48 billion in India over the next five years and will remain a long-term partner in achieving the goal of a “developed and self-reliant India.”
