PM Modi to Visit Slovakia for Historic Talks on Trade and Investment

New Delhi, June 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a state visit to Slovakia this Sunday, at the invitation of his Slovak counterpart, Robert Fico. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister since Slovakia gained independence in 1993.

During his trip, PM Modi will engage in delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Fico and meet President Peter Pellegrini. Discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, automobile manufacturing, and railway infrastructure. This visit is seen as a significant step towards strengthening political, economic, and industrial ties between India and Slovakia.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that this trip will reaffirm India’s commitment to bolstering bilateral relations with Slovakia across various sectors.

India’s Ambassador to Slovakia, Apurva Srivastava, emphasized the importance of this visit, noting that it will extend beyond diplomatic relations and deepen the ties between the two nations.

In an interview, Srivastava remarked, “This is a historic and significant visit. It is the first by an Indian Prime Minister since Slovakia’s independence in 1993, making it highly important. This trip will not only strengthen our political relations but also enhance economic security and people-to-people connections.”

According to the ambassador, PM Modi will also meet with CEOs of several major Slovak companies during his visit.

She highlighted that many Slovak companies have already invested in India, and over the past three years, five major business groups have visited India to explore trade relations and investment opportunities.

Additionally, she mentioned, “Slovakia launched its Indo-Pacific strategy in December 2025, placing significant emphasis on strengthening trade, technology, and political relations in the Indo-Pacific region.”

Ahead of the visit, President Peter Pellegrini welcomed PM Modi, describing the trip as historic.

He wrote on X, “Dear Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I am looking forward to welcoming you in Bratislava on Monday. Your historic visit will advance our positive discussions in New Delhi and open new avenues for Slovakia-India cooperation.”

Following his visit to Slovakia, PM Modi will travel to France to participate in the G7 summit in Avignon on June 16-17, where he will meet with leaders from G7 countries, invited partner nations, and heads of international organizations.

On June 18, the Prime Minister will visit Paris, where he will engage in bilateral meetings and participate in Europe’s largest technology and startup program. He is also expected to address the Indian community during his Paris visit.
