In a post on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi stated, “This evening at 5 PM, I will participate in an event where ₹2,400 crore will be distributed under the ‘Prime Minister Developed India Employment Scheme’. This is a significant step in empowering our youth, aimed at increasing job opportunities and expanding social security coverage.”

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the special event will take place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. This distribution marks a significant achievement in the implementation of PM-VDI. The scheme is a flagship employment incentive initiative by the Government of India, designed to accelerate job creation, formalize employment, enhance employment capacity, and expand social security coverage across all sectors. To date, this initiative has generated 1.5 million job opportunities nationwide.

The PM-VDI scheme aims to encourage both workers and employers to participate in the formal economy. Under this scheme, first-time job seekers receive incentives of up to ₹15,000, significantly aiding their entry into the workforce. Employers who create additional jobs can receive incentives of up to ₹3,000 per month for each new employee, promoting sustainable job creation.

Recognizing the strategic importance of manufacturing in driving economic growth, employers in this sector are eligible for incentives over a four-year period, while employers in other sectors can benefit for two years. This scheme reflects the government’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to employment-based growth, ensuring that the benefits of India’s economic progress translate into quality formal job opportunities for its youth.

The ‘Prime Minister Developed India Employment Scheme’ (PM-VDI) became effective on August 1, 2025. With a total outlay of ₹99,446 crore, the scheme aims to create over 3.5 crore jobs in two years, with approximately 1.92 crore beneficiaries entering the workforce for the first time. By supporting both employees and employers, this initiative plays a vital role in expanding formal employment, strengthening social security coverage, and advancing the vision of a developed India.
