New Delhi, March 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a video conference with Chief Ministers on Friday to review the states’ preparations and plans regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia, an official stated.
The primary aim of this meeting is to coordinate efforts in the spirit of ‘Team India.’ As geopolitical tensions rise and their global impact becomes increasingly evident, this meeting could serve as a platform for PM Modi to update Chief Ministers on the current situation and seek broad consensus on India’s approach to address the crisis.
The official noted, “Chief Ministers from election-bound states will not participate in this meeting due to the enforcement of the model code of conduct.” A separate meeting for the Chief Secretaries of these states will be organized through the Cabinet Secretariat.
Earlier, on Wednesday evening, the government convened an all-party meeting in the Parliament complex in New Delhi to discuss the situation in West Asia. This meeting followed PM Modi’s speech in Parliament regarding the conditions in the region. In his statement, PM Modi mentioned that the government has formed seven empowered groups to devise strategies in sectors like fuel, supply chains, and food to mitigate the impact of the ongoing conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
The all-party meeting on Wednesday was chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. It included Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, JD(U) Executive President Sanjay Jha, Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh, and other leaders.
After the meeting, Kiren Rijiju expressed gratitude to all members of the participating parties. He stated that the government addressed all questions and concerns raised by opposition leaders. Furthermore, he mentioned that all opposition parties assured the government of their full support for any measures taken to address the situation.
Prominent opposition figures present at the meeting included Congress leaders Mukul Wasnik and Tariq Anwar, CPI-M MP John Brittas, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav, and other opposition leaders.
This meeting comes amid escalating tensions in West Asia, which have disrupted essential maritime trade routes and raised concerns about the safety of Indian citizens residing in Gulf countries.
