Golaghat, August 3: Lovlina Borgohain, who won a silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, has dedicated her achievement to the flood-affected people of Assam. Following her success at the CWG, there is a wave of joy in her home district. Dev Barua, the organizing secretary of the Assam Boxing Association, expressed pride and happiness over Lovlina’s accomplishment.
Hailing from Baro Mukhiya village in Golaghat district, Lovlina became the third Indian boxer to win medals in major tournaments after Mary Kom and Vijender Singh, securing a silver in the women’s 75 kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026. She has previously won a silver at the Asian Games and a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics. Additionally, she has achieved success at the World Championships, earning one gold and two bronze medals in the 69 kg and 75 kg weight categories.
Dev Barua stated, “Our daughter from Assam, Lovlina Borgohain, has claimed the silver medal in the finals, and on behalf of the Assam Boxing Association, I congratulate her. Lovlina has dedicated her medal to the flood victims. She fought her debut bout in Dergaon and has inspired other boxers here after winning her Olympic medal. Whenever she meets me, she inquires about the boxers from this region. Congratulations to her on this achievement.”
After winning the silver medal for India at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Lovlina expressed her sorrow over the plight of the flood-affected people. She said, “The situation in Assam is very difficult right now. It pains me to see my people in such conditions. The impact of the floods does not end even after the water recedes, and it is still ongoing. I want to dedicate my silver medal to the flood victims. I also regret that I was not in Assam during this challenging time.”
