New Delhi, September 1: The Asian Games 2026 will take place in Japan from September 19 to October 4. This year, all teams are sending their strongest squads. Bangladesh is also preparing to send a competitive team, but according to officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), fast bowler Nahid Rana may be excluded from the Asian Games.
Nahid missed the recent Test series against Australia due to injury. He has now recovered and has begun training at the BCB academy. After sustaining an injury during the Zimbabwe tour, Rana is focused on making a swift return to international cricket.
BCB chief selector Habibul Bashar stated that the board is unwilling to take any risks with Nahid Rana. He will not participate in the Asian Games but may return for the Afghanistan series.
Turning 24 in October, Rana is one of Bangladesh’s promising fast bowlers. The right-arm pacer competes in all three formats. He has taken 38 wickets in 12 Tests, 32 in 15 ODIs, and 8 in 5 T20 matches for Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board is serious about the Asian Games and is preparing to announce a strong squad for this mega event.
In the previous Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, in 2023, the Bangladesh men’s cricket team secured third place, earning a bronze medal. They defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the bronze medal match. However, they faced defeat against the Indian team in the semifinals, which was led by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who ultimately won the gold medal.
