Chandigarh, August 3: Kewal Singh Dhillon, the President of the Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Drug-Free Youth Campaign’ on Sunday. He described it as a historic initiative aimed at protecting the youth of the nation from addiction and laying the foundation for a strong and prosperous India.
Dhillon emphasized that Prime Minister Modi has consistently demonstrated his commitment to shielding the younger generation from the scourge of substance abuse. He stressed that the dream of a ‘Developed India’ can only be realized if the youth are physically healthy, mentally resilient, and inspired by strong values.
He stated that this campaign will play a transformative role in motivating millions of young people to overcome addiction and contribute positively to nation-building.
Expressing concern over the current situation in Punjab, Dhillon criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led state government. He accused the government of failing to fulfill its promise of eradicating the drug menace within three months of taking office.
He claimed that despite being in power for more than four and a half years, the state government has not effectively addressed this issue.
In a statement, Dhillon noted that while the central government, led by Narendra Modi, is taking concrete and sustained steps to combat drug abuse, the AAP government in Punjab is merely engaged in publicity campaigns and making misleading claims without delivering tangible results.
He asserted that the drug network continues to expand, devastating families and jeopardizing the future of Punjab’s youth.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha member Vikramjeet Singh Sahni announced through his NGO, ‘Sun Foundation,’ that they will launch an anti-drug campaign in Punjab under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. This initiative aims to have five lakh youth in Punjab take an oath against drug use. The ‘Sun Foundation’ has virtually connected 5,000 youths from various skill and rehabilitation centers in Delhi and Punjab through the ‘Drug-Free Youth Campaign.’
Sahni reiterated that his NGO operates 12 de-addiction centers in Punjab, where individuals struggling with addiction are fully rehabilitated through yoga, meditation, exercise, sports activities, and skill training for livelihoods.
