
Port of Spain, September 1: In the 22nd match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026, the Amazon Warriors triumphed over the Trinbago Knight Riders by 9 runs, thanks to a stunning unbeaten century from explosive left-handed batsman Shimron Hetmyer.
Batting first after losing the toss, the Amazon Warriors posted a formidable total of 185 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in just 16 overs. Hetmyer achieved his second T20 century, scoring an impressive 111 runs off only 43 balls, which included 9 sixes and 8 fours. Additionally, Romario Shepherd contributed significantly in the final overs, scoring an unbeaten 27 runs off 7 balls, with 3 sixes and 2 fours. Hetmyer and Shepherd combined to score 45 runs off the last 13 balls, propelling their team to a strong finish.
For the Trinbago Knight Riders, Akil Hussain, Sunil Narine, Lahiru Kumara, and Usman Tariq each took one wicket.
According to the DLS method, Trinbago was set a target of 182 runs in 16 overs. They managed to score 172 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, falling short by 9 runs. Alex Hales was a standout performer for Trinbago, scoring a quick-fire half-century off just 23 balls, which included 7 sixes and 1 four for a total of 55 runs. Shamar Joseph ended Hales’ innings by bowling him out. Captain Nicholas Pooran also made a notable contribution, scoring 43 runs with the help of 4 sixes and 3 fours. Despite these explosive innings, Trinbago could not secure the win.
Mohammad Nabi was instrumental in the Amazon Warriors’ victory, delivering an economical bowling performance that saw him take 3 wickets for just 20 runs in 3 overs. Dwayne Pretorius, Shamar Joseph, captain Imran Tahir, and Khary Pierre each claimed one wicket.
