New Delhi, March 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the ‘PM Surya Home Free Electricity Scheme’ during the 132nd episode of “Mann Ki Baat.” He encouraged the adoption of solar energy and highlighted its benefits, including job creation and income opportunities.
The Prime Minister noted, “If you visit any city in the country today, you will certainly notice a change. A large number of homes now have solar panels installed on their rooftops. Just a few years ago, this was only seen in a handful of houses. However, the impact of the ‘PM Surya Home Free Electricity Scheme’ is now visible across the nation.”
He shared the story of Payal Munjpara from Surendranagar district in Gujarat, whose life has significantly changed due to the solar initiative. She received training in solar technology and completed a four-month course to become a skilled solar PV technician. Now, Payal is establishing herself as a solar entrepreneur, installing solar panels in nearby districts and earning thousands of rupees monthly.
PM Modi also mentioned Arun Kumar from Meerut, who has become an energy provider in his area. At a recent event in Delhi, Arun shared his experiences, stating that he not only saves on electricity bills but also sells excess power. Similarly, Murli Dhar from Jaipur transformed his farming practices by switching from diesel pumps to solar pumps, eliminating fuel concerns and improving irrigation. This change has led to increased annual income and a better quality of life for his family.
The benefits of the ‘PM Surya Home Free Electricity Scheme’ are also reaching the northeastern regions. In Tripura, several villages of the Reang tribe faced electricity issues. Now, thanks to solar mini-grids, homes are illuminated, allowing children to study after dark and enabling people to charge their mobile phones. The social life in these villages has also improved.
