Balaghat, March 29: A tragic incident in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh has resulted in the death of three family members after their car caught fire following an accident. Two others sustained serious burns. Fortunately, three individuals were rescued by passersby after considerable effort. This unfortunate event occurred late Saturday night near the Khelari intersection on the Baheer-Maljkhund road.
According to reports, the car was being driven by Sitam Kelkar, 30, when it lost control on a curve and veered off the road, tumbling down a slope. The vehicle ignited almost immediately, and the flames spread so rapidly that the occupants had no time to escape. Eyewitnesses suspect that the driver may have dozed off momentarily, leading to the loss of control.
Police officials revealed that Sitam Kelkar was returning to Pauni from his ancestral village of Pondi (Parswada), where he operates a welding shop. He had traveled to Puducherry three days earlier with his wife and child and was returning late at night with his parents. An 8-year-old neighbor girl was also in the car, heading back to her home in Pauni.
Bystanders broke the car’s windows and managed to pull three individuals from the flames. All three were severely burned and were rushed to the hospital by the police. However, due to the intensifying fire, rescuers could not reach the remaining trapped occupants in time.
The deceased have been identified as Nagarchi Kelkar, 65, Sitam’s wife Savita Kelkar, 28, and their three-year-old son Abhi Kelkar.
Local residents promptly notified the police, who arrived at the scene and transported the injured to a nearby hospital. Firefighters also responded, attempting to control the blaze, but it was too late to save the three trapped individuals. Authorities have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
