PM Modi Highlights 12 Years of Infrastructure Development in New India

New Delhi, June 16: On the occasion of completing 12 years of ‘New India Construction,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the remarkable infrastructure development achieved across the nation over the past decade. He reiterated the government’s commitment to creating next-generation infrastructure to realize the vision of a ‘Developed India.’

In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “In the last decade, we have seen record levels of infrastructure upgrades. We are committed to building next-generation infrastructure for the people of the country to fulfill our vision of a ‘Developed India.’”

The Prime Minister also shared a post from ‘My Government,’ detailing the achievements related to infrastructure over the past 12 years.

The post highlighted, “The strength of a country is reflected in its ability to connect people, markets, and opportunities. The changes in India’s infrastructure over the last 12 years have accelerated mobility, strengthened logistics, and opened new avenues for growth. Improved connectivity is not only reducing distances but also expanding opportunities, laying a stronger foundation for a more prosperous India.”

According to the ‘My Government’ post, there has been unprecedented growth in India’s road infrastructure over the past 12 years. The length of national highways has increased from 91,287 km to 146,572 km, with the pace of highway construction nearly tripling from 12 km per day to 34 km per day. During this period, over 55,000 km of highways have been added, significantly boosting mobility and economic activities across the country.

Another post emphasized the rapid expansion of India’s railway infrastructure. It noted that broad gauge electrification has surged from 20% in 2014 to 99.6% in 2026, making India one of the largest electrified railway networks in the world. A total of 69,873 route kilometers of rail tracks have been electrified, with 25 states achieving 100% railway electrification.

Additionally, over 1,330 Amrit Bharat stations are being developed and modernized.

The ‘My Government’ post also highlighted how Vande Bharat trains have transformed rail travel with better speed, comfort, and efficiency. Currently, 164 Vande Bharat train services are operational across 274 routes. During the fiscal year 2026, nearly four crore passengers traveled on these services, marking a 34% annual increase. Recently launched Vande Bharat sleeper trains have further strengthened long-distance connectivity, achieving full occupancy and serving over 120,000 passengers within just three months of operation.

Significant changes have also occurred in urban transport. India’s metro network has expanded from 248 kilometers in 2014 to 1,155 kilometers in 2026. Metro services, which were available in only five cities in 2014, are now operational in 26 cities. Daily ridership has increased from 2.8 million to over 10 million, greatly improving urban mobility.

The post also emphasized the achievements of the Udaan scheme, which has made air travel more accessible and affordable. The number of operational airports has risen from 74 to 164, while 663 flight routes now connect 95 airports, heliports, and water aerodromes. These changes have strengthened ‘last-mile’ air connectivity, helping India become the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world.
