Paris, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the inauguration of the grand BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Paris as a “new pillar” in the cultural relationship between India and France. He emphasized that this temple serves not only as a place of faith but also as a symbol of the shared cultural values and cooperation between the two nations, embodying the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony virtually, Modi expressed his heartfelt presence at the event, despite not being physically in Paris. He congratulated revered saints and the BAPS Swaminarayan organization on this historic occasion, paying tribute to the late Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
The Prime Minister noted that Pramukh Swami Maharaj initiated a renaissance of India’s ancient cultural and spiritual wealth, which is now spreading across Europe and the world. He recalled the opening of a magnificent temple in Abu Dhabi in 2024, stating that the construction in Paris continues this vision.
Modi highlighted that temples built by BAPS in various countries carry India’s ancient ideas and humanitarian values. Quoting the Sanskrit mantra “Samānaṃ manaḥ sah cittaṃ eṣām,” he conveyed that India’s message is one of connecting hearts and minds. He believes the Paris temple will enrich France’s diversity and invigorate the cultural ties between the two countries.
Discussing the bilateral relationship, Modi pointed out that India and France are advancing together in technology, artificial intelligence, defense, space, and climate action. He announced that 2026 is being celebrated as the India-France Innovation Year, underlining the strong cultural and historical foundation of the two nations’ strategic partnership.
He acknowledged the enduring legacy of Indian soldiers in France and the significant role of French scholars in popularizing Sanskrit. Citing the works of Romain Rolland and the spiritual journey from Paris to Puducherry associated with ‘The Mother,’ he noted how these connections have brought the two societies closer.
Modi also referenced the arrival of ISKCON founder Srila Prabhupada in France and the yoga events held at the Eiffel Tower on International Yoga Day. He stated that the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple is adding a new chapter to these cultural ties.
The Prime Minister described the temple as an excellent example of “Made in India” and “Built in France.” He explained that many stones were carved in India and assembled in France using modern engineering techniques, creating this magnificent structure. He expressed hope that the temple will symbolize cooperation and possibilities between India and France for centuries to come.
Modi concluded by stating that the Swaminarayan Temple will continue to be a center for devotion and service, believing it will become a significant hub for service projects. He is optimistic that the message of Indian culture will reach across Europe, and he hopes to visit the temple in the future.
