New Delhi, June 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially become the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India as of June 10. On this occasion, the Union Cabinet passed a resolution praising his leadership.
Cabinet members applauded and congratulated the Prime Minister for this historic achievement.
On Wednesday, PM Modi completed 12 years in office as the head of the central government. With a tenure of 4,399 days as an elected Prime Minister, he has surpassed the record set by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
This comparison is based on Nehru’s term starting from 1952, as he led the interim government from 1947 to 1952 before the first general elections.
While former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi served for over 14 years, her tenure was not continuous, making Modi the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in the nation’s history. He has served continuously from his first swearing-in ceremony in 2014, through a re-election in 2019, and is set for a historic third term in 2024.
Under PM Modi’s leadership, several major infrastructure and nation-building projects have been initiated, including the new Parliament building, Central Vista redevelopment, Kartavya Path, Vande Bharat trains, Statue of Unity, INS Vikrant, Kashmir rail link, Noida International Airport, Nammo Bharat RRTS, and the Ganga Expressway.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will hold an important meeting in the capital on Wednesday to celebrate the completion of 12 years of the NDA government and PM Modi’s record as the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India.
This meeting at Bharat Mandapam is expected to include PM Modi, top BJP leaders, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from all 22 NDA-ruled states and Union Territories, as well as leaders from allied parties.
Sources indicate that during the NDA meeting, PM Modi will be congratulated for breaking the historic record set by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Several senior central ministers and prominent NDA leaders, including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, are expected to attend the event.
This meeting is organized to commemorate the NDA government’s 12-year tenure, discussing the coalition’s achievements, future policy priorities, and political roadmap. Discussions may focus on governance initiatives, development programs, and preparations for upcoming electoral challenges.
