Piyush Goyal Criticizes Oppositions Stance on Womens Reservation Bill

New Delhi, April 18: Union Minister Piyush Goyal has sharply criticized the opposition for obstructing the passage of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ constitutional amendment bill. He accused them of celebrating its blockage in the Lok Sabha.

Referring to the events in the House, Goyal described them as “extremely troubling and shameful.” He alleged that the opposition not only opposed the bill but also raised slogans to prevent its progress.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Goyal stated that parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, and other allies of the ‘India’ coalition united not to debate but to block the crucial bill aimed at guaranteeing 33% reservation for women.

He wrote, “Today, we witnessed a deeply troubling and shameful spectacle in the Lok Sabha. Congress, TMC, DMK, Samajwadi Party, and the ‘India’ coalition came together not to engage in debate but to prevent the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, a significant constitutional amendment bill. This bill aimed to ensure 33% reservation for women was not only rejected but celebrated with victory slogans.”

Goyal emphasized that this is not merely political opposition; it is a calculated betrayal of Indian women.

Questioning the opposition’s celebratory attitude, Goyal remarked that it was unclear what they were celebrating. He further stated that such actions equate to supporting patriarchy and suppressing women’s rights.

By blocking the bill, he argued, the opposition denied women their rightful representation in legislative bodies.

Goyal pointed out that these incidents reflect a larger pattern, accusing opposition parties of resisting women’s empowerment and prioritizing political interests over national progress.

“This is not an isolated incident. It is a pattern,” he stated.

He added that the opposition’s stance does not align with women’s interests or the aspirations of the nation.

Goyal warned that there will be political repercussions for these actions, asserting that female voters will remember these events. He wrote on X, “Their true thinking has been revealed, which aligns neither with women’s interests nor with the aspirations of a rising India. This insult to our women’s power will neither be forgotten nor forgiven. It will resonate across every constituency, every state, and every election. The women of India will remember who stood with them and who stood against them.”

The Union Minister also noted that the opposition’s actions will have a “political cost” not only in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections but in other electoral contests as well.

He concluded, “This betrayal will have a political price to pay, not just in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections but in every election across India.”
