Trinidad, August 6: Pakistan has achieved a significant milestone by defeating the West Indies by 8 wickets in the second Test at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain. This victory ends a three-year drought of wins on foreign soil. Chasing a target of 75 runs, Pakistan successfully reached the goal with just 2 wickets lost.
After being reinstated as captain, Babar Azam led the team to break the losing streak that had persisted since July 2023, when Pakistan last won a match in Sri Lanka. Following that victory, the team faced defeat in their last 8 Test matches. However, they finally halted this trend against the West Indies in the second Test.
In the first innings, the West Indies scored 344 runs, to which Pakistan responded with 387 runs, gaining a lead of 43 runs. In the second innings, the West Indies struggled against Pakistan’s spin duo of Ali Usman and Sajid Khan, getting bowled out for just 117 runs. Both Ali Usman and Sajid took 4 wickets each.
Pakistan’s chase did not start well, with Imam-ul-Haq dismissed for just 9 runs, followed by Azaan Awais, who also scored only 9. However, Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam steadied the innings, ensuring no further losses. Shafique remained unbeaten on 24 runs from 51 balls, while Babar also contributed 24 runs, leading Pakistan to victory. With this win, Pakistan has leveled the two-match Test series at 1-1, after losing the first Test by 90 runs.
