New Delhi, August 6: Pakistan secured a significant victory against West Indies, winning the second Test match by 8 wickets. This win has propelled Pakistan up the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, moving them to the 8th position.
So far, Pakistan has played 6 Test matches in the WTC, achieving 2 wins and facing defeats in 4 matches. Before this victory, Pakistan was at the bottom of the points table, but now their win percentage has improved to 22.22%.
The West Indies, on the other hand, suffered a setback, dropping to 9th place in the latest WTC standings. They have only managed 2 victories out of 12 Test matches, with 8 losses, resulting in a win percentage of 20.83%.
In the second Test, West Indies scored 344 runs in their first innings, while Pakistan responded with 387 runs, gaining a crucial lead of 43 runs. However, the West Indies batting lineup struggled in their second innings, collapsing for just 117 runs. Five of their batsmen failed to reach double figures, with Pakistan’s spin duo of Ali Usman and Sajid Khan each taking four wickets.
Pakistan chased down the target of 75 runs comfortably, losing just 2 wickets. Captain Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique both scored 24 runs to remain unbeaten. Ajan Awais contributed 18 runs, while Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for 9. This victory marks Pakistan’s first win on foreign soil in three years, with their last overseas Test win occurring in July 2023 against Sri Lanka.
