Silhat, May 20: Pakistan cricket continues to face tough times as the team suffered a 2-0 defeat in the Test series against Bangladesh. After losing the first Test in Dhaka by 104 runs, Pakistan fell short again in the second Test in Silhat, losing by 78 runs. Following the match, captain Shan Masood expressed his disappointment.
In his post-match comments, Masood stated, “We made many mistakes. When you score around 360 runs in the fourth innings of a match, you expect to be on the right side of the result. I believe we had a lot to think about from the last three innings. The target we faced was indeed quite large.”
Bangladesh, at one point, had lost six wickets for just 116 runs in their first innings but managed to gain a lead. Masood remarked that the last four wickets added significant runs, and they missed crucial opportunities. He emphasized that when they were at 142 runs for four wickets with two set batsmen at the crease, they needed to play a substantial innings, which they failed to do. “We made some errors in the first three innings, which prevented our efforts on the fourth and fifth days from translating into a win,” he added.
Discussing the challenges of Test cricket for Pakistan, Masood said, “I think any mistake in Test cricket is punished. There’s no room for error. Test cricket is always played by the best players. You won’t find easy matches, and you really have to work hard to achieve results. As a team, we need to focus on this. I can only count a few Test matches where we completely lost, but in every other Test, we have been in positions where we did not perform well, whether with the ball or in the fielding department. This is something you need to maintain consistently over five days, and that’s a lesson this team truly needs to learn.”
In the Silhat Test, Bangladesh batted first and scored 278 runs. Pakistan was bowled out for 232 runs in their first innings, giving Bangladesh a 46-run lead. In their second innings, Bangladesh scored 390 runs, setting Pakistan a target of 437 runs. Pakistan managed only 358 runs, resulting in a loss by 78 runs.
