Surat to Host Cycling Event Promoting Substance-Free Youth on September 6

Surat, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The 89th edition of “Fit India Sunday on Cycle” will take place in Surat on September 6, under the theme “Substance-Free Youth, Developed India.” The initiative aims to encourage a healthy and drug-free lifestyle among young people through sports, fitness, and community engagement.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, will lead this cycling event, which will also feature Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghavi. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a “Substance-Free Youth, Developed India,” encouraging youth to avoid drugs and embrace healthier living.

Mandaviya emphasized the importance of this event, stating, “This edition of Fit India Sunday on Cycle is dedicated to motivating our youth to stay away from drugs and adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.” He added that through cycling and other fitness activities, Fit India aims to cultivate a generation that is healthy, confident, and disciplined, committed to building a “Developed India.”

The campaign comes at a time when Prime Minister Modi highlighted substance abuse as a significant challenge for the country and its youth during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort. This 89th edition also supports the “Substance-Free Youth, Developed India Resolution Campaign,” part of a nationwide 100-week public participation initiative. The goal is to establish a sustained movement against substance abuse through sports, fitness, awareness, and active community participation.

The cycling event will kick off at 6 AM from the Sardar Patel statue at Mangadh Chowk, concluding at the Sarathana Zoo, passing through Mini Market and Varachha Main Road. Several prominent athletes are expected to participate, including Padma Shri and Olympian Achanta Sharath Kamal, Arjuna Awardee and wrestler Sarita Mor, wrestler Shivani Pawar, and Commonwealth Games medalist Rahul Mann.
