
Ahmedabad, June 8: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has successfully completed the construction of over 21,000 affordable homes for economically weaker families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Additionally, proposals for approximately 24,000 more housing units have been submitted as part of the second phase of the initiative. The AMC is intensifying its efforts to meet the urban housing demand in Gujarat’s largest city.
According to details released by the AMC on Monday, a total of 21,056 homes have been completed and allocated under the PMAY 1.0 scheme for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS-I). Currently, construction is ongoing for 10,431 additional units.
The EWS-I homes, with a carpet area of 28 square meters, feature a bedroom, hall, kitchen, toilet-bathroom, and wash area.
These projects offer amenities such as parking, Kota stone kitchen platforms with stainless steel sinks, aluminum windows, 24-hour water supply, centralized drainage systems, shared plots, solar panels, fire safety systems, lifts, and PNG gas connections.
The AMC has set the beneficiary contribution for these homes at ₹3.30 lakh. Under the EWS-II category, the corporation has completed 1,217 housing units with a carpet area of 38 square meters.
Furthermore, the AMC has initiated large-scale housing development under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation and Redevelopment Scheme (ISSR)-2013.
The corporation reported that 9,662 homes with a carpet area of 30 square meters have been completed, while work is ongoing on 16,744 other units. These homes include a bedroom, hall, kitchen, toilet-bathroom, courtyard, and open parking space.
Amenities available under this scheme include vitrified tile flooring, Kota stone kitchen platforms, earthquake-resistant construction, glass windows with MS grills, wooden flush doors, standard fittings, water and drainage networks, mini sewage treatment plants, RCC roads, paver block paving, lifts, and PNG gas connections.
