CPI Leader Annie Raja Criticizes Governments Inaction on Womens Reservation Bill

New Delhi, August 28: CPI leader Annie Raja has responded sharply to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju’s recent statements regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill. She asserted that Rijiju is mistaken, as the Nari Shakti Vandan Act was already passed in 2023, making it law. The pressing issue now is its implementation.

Annie Raja accused the BJP of not wanting to enforce this law because they do not believe in equal rights for women. She emphasized that the party does not want women to participate in the nation’s highest decision-making body and contribute to law-making.

Raja stated, “Minister Kiren Rijiju is incorrect. I say this because the bill concerning women’s rights, known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, was passed in 2023. Therefore, it is now law, but the issue is its enforcement.”

She further claimed that the BJP is reluctant to implement this law due to their lack of faith in equal rights for women. Consequently, they do not want women to sit in the country’s most significant decision-making institution and create laws for the nation.

Raja remarked, “For the past 30 years, since 1996, women have been fighting for the Women’s Reservation. The bill was passed in one house in 2010. Yet, ministers are still making the same statements. Tell the women of this country the truth: why are you asking them to wait for the bill to be passed? The law has already been enacted. You must implement it and remove the conditions you have imposed. This is straightforward.”

Additionally, CPI National General Secretary D. Raja commented, “Both houses of Parliament have been adjourned, but they have not been dissolved. This has led to numerous speculations. What is the government planning to do? Kiren Rijiju has not clarified anything. The Prime Minister has not provided any clear information. What is their intention? There are many speculations in the public domain, and the government is responsible for all these uncertainties.”

Regarding the recent tragedy in Nepal, he expressed deep sorrow over the devastation caused by the sudden floods, which have claimed hundreds of lives and left many missing. Among those affected are numerous Indian citizens who are uncertain about their whereabouts and what to do next.
