New Delhi, March 12: Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, narrowly escaped an attack. On Wednesday night, an individual breached security to get close to Abdullah and fired a shot. Fortunately, he was unharmed. This incident has raised concerns among several prominent leaders, who are now demanding an investigation.
Sharad Pawar, leader of the NCP-SP, expressed his worry over the attack on Abdullah. He stated, “The firing incident at the wedding involving senior leader Farooq Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary is alarming. It is a relief that no one was injured. However, such incidents can be serious and dangerous from a public safety perspective. I am glad that all prominent individuals are safe and wish them good health, longevity, and continued security.”
Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot expressed his concern, saying, “I am troubled by the news of a life-threatening attack on former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah. It is extremely serious that this occurred despite police presence and tight security. A thorough investigation must be conducted, and Abdullah’s security needs to be strengthened.”
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren posted, “I am relieved to hear that Farooq Abdullah is safe after the unfortunate shooting incident. This violent act must be condemned, and strict action should be taken. I wish for his good health and safety.”
NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule voiced her concern regarding the deadly attack on Abdullah during the wedding ceremony. She expressed gratitude that he is safe and insisted that a complete investigation into this serious security lapse is necessary, along with appropriate action. She also wished him good health and safety.
TMC MP Mahua Moitra reacted to the attack, stating on X, “I am relieved to see that Farooq Abdullah is safe after the shooting incident at the wedding. May God keep him healthy and happy.”
Shiv Sena-UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi remarked on the disturbing CCTV footage of the attack attempt on Abdullah. She noted, “It is reassuring to hear that he is safe. The fact that someone could get so close to former CM Farooq Abdullah, who has Z-category security, indicates a serious security lapse that must be thoroughly investigated.”
SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav described the attack as tragic, stating, “Farooq Abdullah is a decent person who has never made statements to offend anyone. The fact that he was shot at proves that the government’s claims of controlling extremism are not true. The situation in Kashmir is not good, and the Chief Minister has no real power; everything lies in the hands of the LG.”
