Ranchi, May 28: A youth succumbed to injuries sustained during an assault in the Doranda police station area of Ranchi, sparking widespread protests from family members and local residents on Thursday. The angry crowd blocked the road and demanded the immediate arrest of the assailants by placing the deceased’s body in front of the police station.
The victim has been identified as Mohammad Tanveer Ansari, a resident of Manitol. He was severely injured in a brawl that occurred last Tuesday and died during treatment. Following the incident, enraged relatives brought his body from RIMS to the Doranda police station and initiated their protest.
Traffic was disrupted on the main road in front of the police station during the demonstration. Protesters accused the police of failing to take swift action against the assailants after the incident, which they claim emboldened the attackers. The family is demanding the immediate arrest of the named suspects and compensation for the victim’s family.
According to the FIR filed with the police, Mohammad Javed, Rizwan, and Golden alias Ijaz, residents of Firdaus Nagar in the Doranda area, are accused of launching a lethal attack on Tanveer Ansari. The complaint states that on Tuesday, the assailants stopped Tanveer’s vehicle near Hindustan Chowk and attacked him with an iron rod, resulting in severe head injuries that required approximately 40 stitches.
After the attack, local residents assisted in transporting the injured Tanveer to Doranda Hospital. He was later referred to Sadar Hospital and then to a private hospital in Kokar for better treatment, where he ultimately passed away.
Tanveer’s wife, Khatija Khatun, filed an FIR at the Doranda police station, alleging that the assailants had also threatened to kill their family. Police officials stated that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the suspects.
