Ujjain, June 19: On Friday, the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal was performed at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple. The deity was adorned with silver moon, trident, crown, and jewelry. Notably, cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal visited the temple during Eid celebrations.
In an interview, Chahal expressed his delight, stating, “I felt very good. This was my first experience of the Bhasma Aarti, and everything went smoothly. The way people were managed and guided here is truly commendable.”
Early Friday morning, after seeking blessings from Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with drums and trumpets. As devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal following the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the air resonated with the chant of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The temple complex was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and chanting.
With the opening of the temple doors, the water offering to Lord Mahakal was made using Panchamrit, a mixture of milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices, amidst the chanting of mantras. The deity was further adorned with silver moon, trident, crown, and jewelry.
The temple priest conducted the Maha Aarti, attracting a significant number of devotees who came to witness the Bhasma Aarti. Many devotees had lined up since late Saturday night to have a glimpse of their beloved deity.
Traditionally, Mahakal was offered ashes from the cremation ground, but now, the Bhasma is specially prepared from cow dung of the Kapila cow and medicinal herbs. During the Bhasma Aarti, men are required to wear traditional dhoti-sola, while women must wear sarees.
The Aarti of Baba Mahakal is famous both nationally and internationally, drawing crowds from all walks of life, including prominent personalities. To maintain order during this event, a large number of police personnel are deployed around the temple.
