Lucknow, June 19: In a significant breakthrough, police in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur have apprehended a notorious criminal with a bounty of ₹50,000 on his head. The suspect was involved in the kidnapping of a local business family during a robbery. Authorities recovered ₹7.92 lakh in stolen cash from the accused. Currently, police are interrogating him to identify other accomplices involved in the crime.
According to DSP Varun Mishra, the robbery took place on June 1 at the residence of a well-known businessman, Narendra, in the Giridhari Nagar neighborhood. The criminals held the businessman’s family and the guard hostage to execute the heist.
The police identified the main suspect as Mohit, who had been evading capture since the incident. A reward of ₹50,000 was announced by the DIG of the Meerut range for information leading to his arrest. Following a tip-off, police successfully apprehended him.
In addition to the cash, officers also seized a firearm and ammunition from Mohit. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
In a related incident, police in the BKT area of Lucknow arrested four suspects linked to a ₹5 lakh highway robbery. Authorities recovered ₹4.15 lakh from the accused. The robbery occurred on June 11 when unidentified criminals overtook a vehicle and fired shots while stealing a bag containing cash on the Lucknow-Sitapur highway.
Following the incident, police quickly arrested three suspects. However, others remained at large until four more were captured late Thursday evening.
