Fire Erupts in Colaba Building, Swift Action by Fire Brigade Averts Disaster

Mumbai, May 28: A residential building in the Colaba area of Mumbai caught fire early Thursday morning, causing panic among residents. The incident occurred at the Kismat Building, located in front of Sassoon Dock. The Mumbai Fire Brigade received the alarm around 8 AM. Initial reports indicated that the fire broke out in a room on the fourth floor of the four-story building.

Upon receiving the alert, fire department personnel, police, BEST supply, 108 ambulance services, and BMC ward staff rushed to the scene. Firefighters immediately began rescue operations. Later updates revealed that the fire was contained to room number two on the fifth floor of the five-story building. The blaze damaged electrical wiring, appliances, wooden furniture, curtains, and food items within the room. The fire spread over an area of approximately 200 by 100 feet, but the fire department acted quickly to prevent it from spreading further.

After intense efforts, the fire was completely extinguished by 8:12 AM. Fortunately, there were no reports of major casualties. However, a 50-year-old woman suffered minor burns to her right hand fingers. Authorities on-site advised her to seek hospital treatment, but she declined.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway. Initial suspicions point to a short circuit, although officials have yet to confirm this. The prompt response of the fire brigade helped avert a larger disaster. BMC sources have reported on the incident.

During the fire, residents of the building experienced significant fear, prompting many to evacuate to safety. Fire department officials confirmed that the situation is fully under control and that there is no danger to the surrounding area.
