Opposition Parties Fear Development in Tribal Areas, Says Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Sanghvi

Bharuch, March 14: Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi addressed a large gathering at the ‘Tribal Pride Conference’ held in Bharuch district on Friday. During his speech, he criticized the vote bank politics of opposition parties. Notably, several leaders and activists from the Aam Aadmi Party joined the BJP during this event.

Sanghvi stated that opposition parties have historically used tribal communities primarily as vote banks. For years, the Congress party has treated the tribal community merely as a source of votes. In the age of social media, those who attempt to divide society cannot tolerate the progress of tribal people.

According to Sanghvi, expanding basic facilities like mobile connectivity in tribal areas will help combat the spread of misinformation. He remarked, “Parties like yours and Congress fear that if mobile networks reach tribal areas, their bases for spreading false information will be shut down.”

The conference in Netrang saw a significant turnout from the tribal community in the surrounding regions. During the event, Urmilaben, a former candidate from the Aam Aadmi Party, officially joined the BJP along with several party workers.

Sanghvi emphasized that the tribal community has played a crucial role in the region’s history, describing them as the “true guardians and rightful heirs of water, land, and forests.” He noted that tribal communities have historically resisted foreign powers and contributed to key moments in India’s past.

He stated, “History bears witness that tribal brothers have never bowed before foreign powers. Whether it was the sacrifice of Vegdha Bhil for the protection of Somnath or the revolt of 1857, tribal kings and warriors have always defended the motherland.”

Sanghvi also referenced the martyrdom of 1,500 Bhils under the leadership of Guru Gobind, noting that their sacrifice remains a part of the region’s historical memory.

He provided information on development initiatives implemented since 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, including the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’, sanitation programs, the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ initiative, and the annual financial assistance of ₹6,000 for farmers, all of which have directly benefited the populace.

The Deputy CM stated that under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, the state government has committed to establishing modern schools and Birsa Munda libraries in every taluka.

Sanghvi highlighted the BJP’s support for tribal leaders in prominent positions, including the appointment of Ganpat Vasava as the Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly. He also noted that several ministers in the state government currently represent tribal communities.
