Kannur, February 9: Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan stated on Monday that not only the common people but also “good communists and leftist supporters” have lost faith in the leftist government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
He emphasized that recent comments by poet Sachidanandan clearly reflect the current public sentiment in Kerala. Satheesan made these remarks during a media interaction in Thalassery while leading the Congress-led UDF’s Puthuyuga Yatra.
According to Satheesan, those who have long supported leftism are beginning to believe that the CPI(M) has no moral right to remain in power. He accused both the party and the government of straying from leftist politics and adopting a right-wing path. Satheesan also alleged that the CPI(M) is using strategies similar to the BJP to promote religious polarization in the state.
He noted that the minority community feels more insecure than ever before. Satheesan accused the CPI(M) of trying to appease minorities during parliamentary elections, only to cater to the majority post-elections, resulting in the party losing the trust of both groups.
He mentioned that a state of complete confusion prevails, and those who have stood with leftism for decades understand this reality well.
Referring to the Sabarimala gold theft case, V.D. Satheesan pointed out that three CPI(M) leaders are already in jail over allegations related to the alleged theft of offerings to Lord Ayyappa. He warned that if the investigation progresses, more party leaders could also face imprisonment.
Satheesan alleged that the government is pressuring the Special Investigation Team to protect those involved in the case. He revealed that this theft occurred in 2019 when Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was in power. He added that two Devaswom Board presidents appointed by the government at that time are among those jailed.
In response to the controversy surrounding Congress MP Adur Prakash’s photograph with Unnikrishnan Potty, Satheesan stated that the opposition has no objection to questioning Adur Prakash. However, he demanded that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also be questioned based on similar photographs.
During interactions with the public throughout the Puthuyuga Yatra, Satheesan criticized the government harshly. He pointed out that the agricultural crisis is deepening, attacks by wild animals are increasing, spinning mills are closing, workers are not receiving timely wages, and the government has completely failed to resolve land acquisition issues related to KINFRA, highways, and airport projects.
He announced that the UDF will present alternative policy documents for all these areas, including a health vision document to be released in Kozhikode, which will address the problems the current government has failed to tackle.
